At the moment I’m busy preparing for my play, 213 Things About Me at the Battersea Arts Centre, finishing a book and looking after my 11 month old son. When I don’t have a lot of time I find myself wearing the same few things over and over. I’m currently living in this skirt from Teatum Jones’ SS18 collection and this top by Whistles. I’ve always been a fan of pastel colours, especially lilac, which is supposedly the preserve of old ladies. However, I’m not afraid of growing old and I figure I may as well start as I mean to go on. Lilac also happens to be one of the key colours for the season. I used to take a lot of notice of trends and shape my look around whatever happened to be en vogue. Now I only wear a trend if it fits with what I fancy wearing – I’m too old and jaded to be parading around in uncomfortable stuff that doesn’t suit me.
I find that colour affects my mood and although an outfit does not cause circumstantial change, it lifts my spirits and makes me feel a bit more optimistic. I try to make the effort to dress in a way I find pleasing, even if I’m just working from home. Wearing colours that make me happy is one small way I take care of my mental health, it probably sounds a little trite, but it helps.
